Ways to conserve

Energy

  • In lab spaces, maximize existing freezer space to improve energy efficiency and reduce the number of lab freezers needed.
  • Sign up for the Green Workplace Program to implement building-specific energy conservation and other sustainable best practices in your workplace.
  • Look for outside windows and doors that are leaking hot or cold air and submit an online service request to have them fixed.
  • Curb electric consumption by switching off all appliances when spaces are not in use.

Water

  • Reduce your water consumption by turning off the water when brushing your teeth and only running full loads of laundry.
  • Fill up a reusable water bottle at the bottle fill stations found across Grounds.
  • Spend less time in the shower. With a waterproof timer, try to limit your shower time to 3-5 minutes. A fun way to time yourself is to listen to music in the bathroom and see how many songs play while you're in the shower. Try to get your shower time down to a single song.
  • If you come across a dripping faucet on Grounds, report it to UVA Facilities Management by submitting an online service request to have it fixed.
